Technology Recap:


  • Lightning Labs releases LND v0.17.1! This release contains various optimizations and bug fixes focusing around mempool scanning logic and Taproot channel types.


  • Christine Kim of Galaxy provides the latest updates from the All Core Devs Call for Ethereum. This past week the first Dencun Goerli shadow fork launched and went smoothly. More shadow forks will be coming as the teams need to properly test and analyze block + transaction blob latencies.

  • Georgios Konstantopoulos of Paradigm, shares that OP Reth has been merged! Reth is Paradigm’s high performance Ethereum node which can now be utilized as-is for the OP Stack.

  • Vitalik Buterin announces the return of Plasma and how the ideas of this scaling solution can extend to EVM Validiums.

  • Ethereum researchers comment on a report regarding The Costs of Censorship with data aggregated from Blocknative mempool data and the OFAC Ethereum addresses dataset.

Other Chains:

  • OP Labs announces the first post-Bedrock network upgrade for the Optimism ecosystem, Canyon. The Canyon testnet upgrade took place on November 14th, 2023 at 17:00 UTC. This upgrade was built and implemented with Coinbase’s Base team and will help supercharge Superchain testnets.

  • Nocturne V1 is now live on mainnet! Nocturne pairs every Ethereum wallet with an additional private wallet sidecar to enhance vault privacy.

  • Scroll announces that Chainlink Data Feeds are now live on Scroll’s mainnet. Scroll developers now have access to high-quality decentralized data needed to build secure, scalable and advanced applications.

  • BitGo, a leading provider of crypto security and custodial services, has integrated Agoric BLD staking token. With support for BLD now live, BitGo users have access to the Agoric ecosystem.

  • OKX is using Polygon CDK to build a ZK-powered Layer-2 network that connects the 50M+ OKX users to the broader Ethereum ecosystem.

  • Arbitrum community approves initial vote on proposal to activate ARB token staking.

  • Starknet provides an introduction to Madara, an open-source Starknet Sequencer which is built using Substrate.

  • Capsule, a cross-app embedded wallet is now in public beta!

  • =nil; is introduced! Nil is a zkRollup that securely scales Ethereum to 60K+ transactions per second through zero knowledge sharding.

  • Messari shares Safe’s ecosystem growth with transactions soaring 273% and active accounts up by 1.65x in Q3 alone.

  • zkSync provides a weekly roundup of the recent news and updates from the zkSync ecosystem.

  • The first trades on the new dYdX Chain are live!

  • Bluechip, a non-profit stablecoin rating agency, provides a weekly roundup from project launches and on-chain metrics.

  • Succinct is launched which provides a collaboration environment for developers to iterate on proof systems and infrastructure for zero-knowledge applications.

Hacks | Vulnerabilities | Exploits:

  • On November 10th, 2023, Poloniex was hacked and had funds dispersed across three chains: Ethereum, Tron, and Bitcoin. The resulting estimated loss is ~$125M USD.

  • On November 12th, 2023, Raft Finance fell victim to an on-chain pirate raid on Ethereum, causing the R Stablecoin to de-peg. Fortunately or unfortunately, the attacker sent 1,570 ETH to the burn address and only pocketed around ~$8K USD.

  • Aave received a report of an issue on certain features of the Aave Protocol. The V3 markets on Ethereum, Base, and Metis as well as the V2 markets on Polygon and Avalanche were unaffected. A detailed postmortem will be released once all is resolved.

Mainstream Recap:

  • Coinbase introduces Coinbase Verifications! With this, users can attest to account and country credentials on-chain, all verified by Coinbase. This is now live for all users and is also accessible to developers.

  • Safe announces self-custody via Safe{Wallet} on Gnosis Chain now via one’s Google account!

  • Kraken is seeking partnerships to help build their own layer-2 network following Coinbase’s Base uptick.

  • Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) is coming to Noble – a Cosmos application-specific blockchain, which will enable users to send their USDC as collateral contemplated by the dYdX Chain.

  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) proposes new federal oversight of big tech companies and other providers of digital wallets and payment applications.

  • BitPay announces BillPay! Users can now pay bills with either Bitcoin, Ether or others without any accounts or wire transfers.

  • CoinDesk reports that Crypto VC funding slowed down in the beginning of November with only $35M raised in 9 deals including Uniswap DAO and Modulus.

  • Boyaa Interactive, a Chinese gaming company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, unveiled plans to buy ~$55M worth of crypto within the next year.

  • Onyx by JP Morgan and Apollo Global have announced a collaboration under Project Guardian. The project will leverage Layer Zero Labs to connect Onyx with a permissioned Avalanche Evergreen Subnet.

  • BlockSec launches Phalcon Block, a crypto hack blocking system for Web3 security. Phalcon Block is an integrated solution that combines protocol monitoring, attack blocking, and incident response all-in-one.

  • Arkham announced a collaboration with Chainlink to provide entity labels on-chain with Chainlink functions. Users can now input a blockchain address and receive its attributed real-world owner as output.

  • Immutable, the leading web3 gaming platform, announces a new partnership with Ubisoft to create a new gaming experience that further unlocks the potential of web3!

  • CFX Labs, operating at the intersection of financial services, point-of-sale, and digital assets – has raised $9.5M in seed funding. The strategic partners include Shima Capital, Decasonic, Antalpha, CMT Digital, Corazon Capital, Hard Yaka, Kraken Ventures, New Form Capital, and the Metropolitan Capital Bank & Trust.
