Technology Recap:

Bitcoin:

  • John Law posts to the Lightning-Dev mailing lists the summary of a paper focused on preventing standard capital with multi-party payment channels and channel factories. 

  • Partially-Signed Bitcoin Transaction (PSBT) based exchange, OpenOrdex, launches as open-source and allows sellers to create an order book of Ordinal satoshis using PSBTs and buyers to sign and broadcast to complete the trade.

  • Breez announced the open-source Breez SDK for mobile developers who want to integrate Bitcoin and Lightning payments. 

  • Wasabi Wallet announces that any BTCPay Server merchant can now activate an optional plugin which supports the WabiSabi protocol for coinjoins. 

  • Wasabi Wallet also released their v2.0.3 release which includes Taproot coinjoin signing and Taproot change outputs, opt-in manual coin control for sending, improved wallet loading speed and more. 

Ethereum:

  • Ethereum mainnet will upgrade to Shapella (Shanghai / Capella) on April 12th, 2023 at 22:27:35 UTC. 

  • Terence Tsao of Prysmatic Labs and Arbitrum shares all the latest from the EIP-4844 implementers call. 

  • Erigon releases v2.41.0, which adds configurations for the Shanghai upgrade for Ethereum mainnet.  

  • Prysm releases v4.0.0, which is mandatory for all mainnet Prysm beacon nodes and validators. This enables the Capella upgrade which is scheduled for April 12th, 2023 at 22:27:35 UTC. 

Other Chains: 

  • Arbitrum launches their governance token with help from Nansen. Nansen helped develop the airdrop distribution data analysis and stated that 625,143 addresses were eligible for the airdrop.

  • Polygon zkEVM launches! Polygon zkEVM is a decentralized Ethereum Layer-2 scalability solution that uses cryptographic zero-knowledge proofs to offer validity and quick finality to off-chain transaction computation, also known as ZK-Rollup.

  • Uniswap introduces Mini Portfolio, a new way to view your assets on the Uniswap Web App! This will allow users to view your tokens, NFTs, activity, LP Pools, and more. 

  • dYdX shares their plans for v4 and MEV. The dYdX v4 chain will use the Cosmos infrastructure to enable them to build unique MEV solutions that align a validator’s incentives with a user’s incentives. 

  • Circle and Noble are bringing native USDC to Cosmos and the boundless Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) ecosystem. 

  • Polkadot parachain, Kilt Protocol, has teamed up with carbon-neutral Web3 music marketplace, Public Pressure, to help artists and DJs add certificates of authenticity to their work. 

  • Rhino.fi, previously DeversiFi, announced their bridge to zkSync and made it completely free for the first 48 hours after launch. 

  • Etherscan plans to bring the Etherscan block explorer experience to Polygon zkEVM. 

  • Immutable and Polygon team up to pave the future for Web3 gaming, making it easier than ever for developers to bring their ideas to life. 

  • Linea is introduced! A developer-friendly zk-Rollup powered by ConsenSys. 

  • Conduit is launched, a crypto native infrastructure platform. This enables users to launch a rollup in just a few clicks. 


Hacks | Vulnerabilities | Exploits:

  • On March 13th, 2023, Euler Finance was exploited via a flash loan attack for $197M on Ethereum. Although no direct exposure, Yearn Finance’s two vaults suffered from indirect losses due to strategies having invested in protocols that in turn were using Euler. The losses are capped at most $1.38M for Yearn.

  • On March 15th, 2023, Poolz Finance lost $650K on BSC in an integer overflow exploit

  • On March 16, 2023, ParaSpace was targeted with a reward manipulation exploit. BlockSec detected an attacker’s attempts and performed the attack themselves – rescuing $5M in assets. 

  • On March 17th, 2023, General Bytes’ BATM platform was compromised in order to take over ATMs and steal ~$1.8M. 


Mainstream Recap:

  • Coinbase receives Wells notice from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) focused on staking and asset listings.

  • The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) sued crypto exchange Binance and founder Changpeng Zhao on allegations the company knowingly offered unregistered crypto derivatives products in the U.S. against federal law. 

  • The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charges crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun and his companies for fraud and other securities law violations. 

  • Xapo Bank, based in Gibraltar, announced its customers can now send outgoing Lightning payments from the Xapo Bank mobile apps, using the underlying infrastructure from Lightspark

  • CoinDesk reports that the FDIC has provided a deadline of April 5, 2023 to clear deposits for crypto depositors stranded by Signature Bank. 

  • Jeremy Allaire, co-Founder and CEO of Circle, shares an update on USDC and Silicon Valley Bank. 

  • Coinbase introduces free bank transfers and Singpass integration for customers in Singapore. 

  • Salesforce announces that they have launched on Polygon to help their clients onboard into Web3 with their management platform for token-based loyalty programs. 

  • Wallet-as-a-Service is now available via self-service in Coinbase Cloud. 

  • Binance suspended spot markets at 11:38 UTC on March 24th, 2023. Roughly one hour later, the trading engines came back online. 

  • Conduit announces a raise of $7M from Paradigm with upcoming collaboration with Optimism to help teams scale applications via one-click deployments.
